Famous for its acidic taste and wide array of uses, apple cider vinegar is an absolute must-have in any wellness toolbox. ACV is an ancient remedy that has been shown to help lower post-meal glucose levels and assist in weight loss when paired with a healthy lifestyle. Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, used ACV in 400 B.C. for its powerful natural qualities. It is rich in B-vitamins, probiotics, and antioxidants, which are all important nutrients that our bodies love.
What is apple cider vinegar?
ACV is a vinegar made from fermented apple juice. The process starts by crushing fresh apples, and then squeezing out the juice. The fermentation of the juice is what gives ACV its probiotic properties. Probiotics are living organisms that help to promote the healthy bacteria in your gut.
RWM’s Tips
Apple cider vinegar can be used in tonics or teas, in salad dressings, or taken as a shot. It’s intense, though, so if you’ve never tried it you might want to start small: 1-2 tablespoons a day to begin. From personal experience, gargling ACV 2-3 times a day during a cold will knock out a sore throat almost immediately. For a tonic: add an ounce of ACV to warm water with a squeeze of lemon. Look for labels that say “the ‘mother'” because that ensures you get all the probiotic nutrients that we’ve talked about.
