Oh, the magic of coconut oil! It cooks your food, moisturizes your skin, and now it’s going to whiten your teeth. By swishing coconut oil for 10-20 minutes a day, your oral hygiene can be completely transformed. It creates an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect, whitens teeth, and can even helps keep your breath fresher than mouthwash can, completely naturally. Mouthwash is used to kill all of the bacteria in your mouth, even the good kind. Oil pulling kills the bad and allows the good to stick around. Fact: your mouth can become reliant on mouthwash so your breath actually gets worse one you stop using it because of the lack of the good bacteria. A healthy mouth is about more than minty breath, though. Good digestion begins with your tongue detecting the enzymes in food to tell your body how to start digesting them. A dirty tongue can’t do that.
RWM’s Tips
So now you know all the benefits, but how exactly do you oil pull? Simple: after your tongue scraping practice, take a tablespoon of coconut oil and swish it around in your mouth after brushing. Try two or three minutes at first before working your way up to 20. When you’re done, make sure to spit it out in the garbage. Don’t swallow it or you’ll be ingesting all of those toxins you just swished out, and don’t spit in the sink or it’ll clog the drain when the oil solidifies. Now you know how and you know why, so let us know how your first oil pulling experience goes!
